3 Ways You Can Create Your Own Friday Report
If you’re on a mission to launch your newsletter, here’s my course on how to do it in just 7 days!
My word of 2021 was “commitment”. I’ve struggled with commitment my entire life and the only things I’ve consistently committed to are vegetarianism, positivity and life outside of Amaerica.
At the end of last year, my LLC Life Maed Easy accidentally became official which meant that I became a business owner and few things say “committed” like entrepreneurship.
So, I decided to create a testament of my newfound commitment. I created the Friday Report, a newsletter where I share life updates, maepiphanies, helpful resources, pop culture updates, new music and more.
Creating the Friday Report was an easy choice because for years my homies have been asking me to create a newsletter. First, let me explain what a Friday Report really is.
I got put on to the concept of a Friday Report as a participant in my homie Ari’s project management course. It’s a weekly update that service-providers send to clients and it’s something that I adopted immediately after completing the course.
Whether you’re a graphic designer, a wedding planner or a yoga teacher, you can implement a Friday Report.
How it works is simple — every Friday you send an update on what was accomplished that week, what were your challenges and what’s coming up for new week. Obviously, you can add in whatever else you want. The Friday Report is a super simple way to be communicative, plan ahead and cover your ass as a service-provider.
In my Friday Reports for clients, I like to include a list of what I need from them and success metrics like how much money I’ve saved them that week. Numbers speak louder than anything so I strongly encourage you to figure out which metrics matter most for your client. If you’re a social media manager, include an overview of engagement metrics and followers gained/lost for that week.
And if you’re not a service-provider, not to worry! You can still incorporate the Friday Report into your life.
Here are 3 ways how:
- If you work on a team, create a habit of structured weekly team updates where each member shares what they accomplished that week and what they’ll be working on moving forward. #accountability
- Create a weekly personal or professional development report for yourself. Detail what you learned that week and how you’ll challenge yourself in the future. What were your accomplishments and what are your goals for the following week?
- Post weekly to the social media platform of your choice — this will ensure consistency and your followers will learn to expect to hear from you every week. Keep it real and keep it authentic, people love that shit. (We’re gonna cover authenticity this week as well.)
Once you’re ready to get started with your own Friday Report, here are 3 steps to get started — and no, you don’t have to do it only on Fridays:
- Set your Future Self up for success and create a template.
- Create a place to host each report for easy reference. I have a Kanban board in Notion to host each of the Friday Reports.
- Set an alarm, hire a messenger pigeon or tell your friends about your mission so you’re held accountable. Luckily, I have friends who message me wondering where the Friday Report is, even if I’m just a few hours late. No matter what, COMMIT to completing that report each week. Otherwise, why bother?
Stay committed,
Maegan
