📨 Friday Report XLI — 10.15.21
Quote of the Week
“Telling the world no sometimes means telling yourself yes.”
-My homie and favorite photographer, Remy, on the importance of putting ourselves first.
Happy Friday Saturday afternoon!
I’ve had to tell the entire world no this week and yesterday, that included the Friday Report.
Last Saturday I checked into a super cute Airbnb that turned out to be hell on earth. Noise is real in Playa and it’s the reason I haven’t been able to stay in any apartment for more than 3 months (I haven’t even done that since April).
It’s gotten to the point that I know it’s not me (and a quick search for “noise in Mexico” on Google let’s me know that this has been a long-lasting issue for people wanting to move here longterm).
The Airbnb was on a block full of dogs and in Mexico, most dogs live outdoors. They barked incessantly all day and all night and if there’s one thing I don’t play about, it’s my sleep.
It got so bad that I had to get Airbnb involved and they issued me a full refund (que blessed?). I’m at a new spot now and there’s def still barking, but it’s not as bad and last night I slept the night away uninterrupted. Something I hadn’t experienced since last week.
I’ve already maed plans to dip out. Now it’s a matter of managing my adrenal fatigue because my body is stressed and tired. I can actually feel my nervous system struggling to keep up and I don’t respond well to high levels of stress. All I can do is shut down and so that’s what I’ve had to do the past couple of days. It most definitely paid off.
So if I’ve told you “no” this week (or ever), know that it’s because I’m prioritizing myself and quite literally prioritizing my health.
Sometimes I beat myself up for even getting to this level of stress, but then I say, “You gooood, Maegan. It’s all practice.” Although I absolutely hope I don’t, I mae end up here again. And next time I’ll be better equipped to prevent it and manage it.
It’s all practice.
Before you Google adrenal fatigue and see if any of the symptoms resonate with you…
Let’s dive in!
- You already know how I feel about a scammer podcast and this one is called, “The Fyre Fest of vaccine rollouts.” It was meant for me!
- You’re not fat, you’re inflamed.
- In honor of The Great Resignation…
- And with The Great Resignation comes Boomerang Employees. They’re the ones who quit and decide to return to their employer. The professor who predicted The Great Resignation is urging employers and employees to be open to a reunion because oftentimes when people quit, they don’t need a new job, they just need a break.
- I used to work for VIPKID, a Chinese platforms that connects native English speakers with Chinese students. It’s a lot of work, but I did a great job, I loved my students and it funded my travels all across the world. Now, Chinese companies like VIPKID are basically illegal.
- What does being an adult even mean? This 🧵 is very comforting if you, too, are a millennial wondering when you’ll feel “grown up”.
- I’ve hated noise pollution my entire life so this podcast dropping this week was great timing. We’re all affected by noise pollution, whether we know it or not. Some of us (ME) are just way more sensitive to it (the struggle of being clairaudient). Here are some takeaways:
- A 10 decibel increase in aircraft noise was associated with a 28% increase in anxiety medication and 25% more likely to have symptoms of depression.
- When we hear loud noises, our flight or fight responses are activated (hence my increase in stress this week). Noise pollution can cause heart disease and heart attack.
- Your ears never turn off and the noise causes chronic stress even if you’re not waking up in your sleep (so even if the dogs barking didn’t wake me up, my body was still experiencing stress because of it).
- I know what you’re thinking — noise pollution takes a long time to catch up to us. NOPE! Your body starts suffering after just one night of noise. You can have no other health issues, yet noise can bring on diseases like diabetes and obesity.
- Noise pollution has been considered a key cause of whales beaching themselves. They’re trying to escape the sonar noises that dumbass humans (aka the military) are creating.
- My thoughts: maybe craving silence as we get older isn’t a sign of aging, but really a sign of noise pollution catching up to us thus increasing our sensitivity to it? 🤔
What’s up with me?
- I went to the doctor last week and my blood test says that I’m pretty good on the parasite front, but I got way too excited when my cleanse ended, had too much sugar (known to some as maezcal) and now my body is inflamed and full of candida. Now that I’m learning about how this is a problem that plagues so many people, I can see how this has been the case for a minute and I just had no idea.
- If you’re feeling depressed, anxious, flustered, craving sugar or you’re unable to focus, I cannot stress enough how important is to reevaluate your sugar intake.
- If you’ve taken birth control, steroids (asthma inhalers count) or especially if you’ve taken antibiotics at any point in your lifetime — can you reflect on when you started that treatment and did any negative symptoms appear in your body? Did you develop bags under your eyes? Twitchy hands? Low patience?
- Be warned, sugar is in literally everything and I’m vegetarian so I’m essentially on a strict diet of a small group of veggies and eggs. Yum. This will probably be my reality for the next year, but I’m committed to feeling better — the natural way.
- My biggest feat now is finding a naturopath to guide me back to gut health. If you know anyone, please holla at me. I’d really appreciate it.
Track Read of the Week
Adding 10 minutes of reading to my morning routine has been wonderful to me this week. It’s also helped me to avoid jumping on my phone once I wake up.
I’m reading Candida Crusher and this shit is changing my life. If any of the symptoms I’m outlined above resonated with you or someone you love, please read this book. Especially if you’re a parent.
Here’s a free and quick quiz if you wanna see if candida is affecting you.

I deleted TikTok on Sunday and I’m not allowing myself to re-download it until November at the earliest. It was a great decision because I’ve been on my phone less. I know that screens = stress manifesting in my body so I’m doing all I can to be proactive about it.
It seems like most people I know are going through it, in one way or another. One day, life is the greatest it’s ever been and the next, it’s a shit show. I think it’s the name of the pandemic game.
So on that note, what’s the best piece of mental health advice that you’ve ever received? I’ll share your responses next week. Thank you in advance for sharing with us. ❤️
I’m headed back to my bed to either binge Sister, Sister or get some work done. Or both.
In a world where sometimes everything feels so hard, I’m wishing you the easiest weekend to ever do it.

Stay easy,
Maegan
