OH, IT CAN’T BE. GENIUSTALK, MY GRAMMY FAMILY.

The Grammys are in less than a week. GeniusTalk loves music. GeniusTalk loves making predictions. GeniusTalk loves saying ridiculous things on the internet. We’re going to do all three this week during Grammy Family Week.

Monday through Thursday, each of us will review a category we know well and a category we know nothing about. Friday, we’ll give our Grammy picks for Record of the Year. Got it? Good. Let’s go.

Rather than predict the winner for each category, I’ve instead chosen my personal favorite in bold because 1) my opinion matters more than that of the Grammys; 2) I couldn’t care less who wins; and 3) I have no respect for how nominees & winners are chosen.

BEST R&B SONG

Come and See Me — PartyNextDoor feat. Drake

Bruh…of all the Px songs out there, THIS is the one to get nominated for a Grammy? This is why whomever chooses these nominees and winners has zero credibility in my eyes. Deadass, I think it’s because Kylie was in the video. I’m happy for him, but this was by far his most boring single, on his most boring single and that hurts to say as the PND fangirl that I am.

And Drake’s verse? #meh

Exchange — Bryson Tiller

Although I think Bryson Tiller is highly overrated, has no bars and is only meant to release dope singles, this was my shitttt. I’m assuming “Don’t” was too old to be nominated, so I’ll take this. The production is fire and sends me straight back to the 90s. The J. Cole, “Deja Vu” controversy only made me like the production more.

I live for music industry beef.

Kiss It Better — Rihanna

I’m hoping Dayo still talks to me even though I didn’t chose this as my top choice. Loved this song, liked the video, but would never consider it Grammy worthy. This production is super 90s as well which always warms my black heart.

Lake by the Ocean — Maxwell

I haven’t really listened to any of the new school Maxwell and now I see that I’m OK with that. Not saying that it’s a bad song, I just couldn’t care less. Def not made for Maegan and I’m not even gonna bother figuring out what “Lake by the Ocean” means.

Luv — Tory Lanez

Yo… Just like the PND situation above, of alllll the Swavey songs out there, THIS IS THE ONE TO GET NOMINATED? I fucking cannot. He’s another one of my favorites so I’m super happy for him, but my God, of all the bangers, I will never understand why this one was chosen.

Actually, I do understand, but I’m disappointed nonetheless.

COUNTRY SONG OF THE YEAR

FYI: I hate country music and wanted to review a Rock category, but Kenny really wanted me to hop on this, so here we are.

Blue Ain’t Your Color — Keith Urban

-_____- Really trying to have an open mind here, especially since Keith Urban is an OG. Maybe it’s all the Trump bullshit in the air, but I’m so over dudes telling girls to smile. Hop off my dick; no one asked you.

Die a Happy Man — Thomas Rhett

UGH. At the 1:43 mark, I realized I wasn’t actually listening to this, so I had to restart it. It’s not the worst I guess, but allodis just sounds so whiny to me. It’s better than the last song at least?

Humble and Kind — Tim McGraw

Are there happy country songs? Why does everyone sound so sad? I support this message though, I wish more people were humble & kind and I’m not sure manners exist anymore.

“Don’t expect a free ride from no one. Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here is why: Bitterness keeps you from flying, always stay humble and kind.”

This shit is real as fuck. I see you Tim McGraw! Although this kinda sounds like a country nursery rhyme, I’m swaying in my seat a bit, wishing I had a lighter in the air, particularly for the guitar solo.

My Church — Maren Morris

Yo, I fuck with this. Women make better country music and that’s a fact, but we do everything better, so duh. As the super religious woman I am (#sike), I love this and I actually see myself listening to this song again. There’s no better sanctuary than driving alone, blasting your favorite shit on the radio.

Vice — Miranda Lambert

Alright, the women win this category for sure. At first, I was angry about how long it was taking for the beat to drop, but this goes in. Maren & Miranda are holding it down with the relatable music.

“If you need me, I’ll be where my reputation don’t precede me.”

Mah bitchhh.

Tomorrow on the mic, mi Corona Papi, Kenny, with Best American Roots Performance (whatever that is) and Best R&B Performance.
