Know how to create your own rules . . .
2022 is the year of the Self Maed entrepreneur. Subscribe to the Self Maed Money Report for a behind-the-scenes look into my business progress, new ventures, success stories and lessons learned.
This is lesson 2 of 11 after 1 year in business.
In April 2016, I moved to Koh Phangan, Thailand with way too many clothes* and $300 in my bank account. I went to manage a yoga studio on the beach and I had no idea that that move would change the entire trajectory of my life.
I had a job as a digital marketing director at a toxic ass startup in Boston and although I had never been to Asia, I knew it my gut that it was the right decision for me.
By August, I left that (also toxic) job and moved north to Chiang Mai which was the Digital Nomad capital of the world at the time. I had just enough money to pay rent for a month and survive off of 2 street meals per day.
But within a week, I had a remote job and 2 temp jobs teaching English to college students. 💪🏾
Despite these maejor wins and my ability to always make shit happen for myself, my parents and many of my friends thought I was delusional. They couldn’t fathom the idea of me working online, thought it was fraud and encouraged me to move back to the States for a “real job”.
And here we are in 2022. Almost everyone I know works remotely or aspires to. People of all ages are flocking to places like Maexico to pursue life as a digital nomad. And all the humans are creating businesses built on their terms.
Do I say all of that to highlight that I’m an innovator and a fucking icon? Yes. 😂 I’m the greatest to ever do it.
JK (kinda) — I say all of that to stress how important it is to do what works for you. Do what lights you up. And never fucking settle!
I could have settled for a “real job”, but that wasn’t my path. I knew it then and I know it now.
And that’s why I brought back consults. They light me UP!
The impact is immediate and every single time, the client comes in so stressed and by the end of the session their body language is relaxed, they’re laughing and they feel empowered to make shit happen.
Because I’m on a mission to make my business work for me and not the other way around, I’m going to try out only offering consultations during the last week of each month.
If you wanna chat next week, now’s your time! Otherwise, see you in February. ✌🏾
Stay ambitious,
Maegan
