Here’s how to know if your business is a success or failure.
A curated selection of success stories, business resources and lessons learned from a 30-something self maed entrepreneur.
It’s a Self Maed Summer!
If you’re new here, I’m Maegan, lovingly known as Mae. I’m a part-time narcissist, digital nomad, educator and the CEO of Life Maed Easy, a platform of educational resources, coaching programs and live events designed to help you find freedom, ease and success in all that you do.
I spent my 20s working in array of spaces particularly within the fitness industry, education, international hospitality and start ups.
And by my 30s I knew that I was not meant to work for someone else and I launched my first service-based business, Resumaes.
During the pandemic I found myself in a wild depression, started sharing all of the tools that brought me back to myself and Life Maed Easy was born!
I’m almost two years in and I’ve already learned so much along the way while helping others grow their businesses, mindset and income. With this Self Maed Sunday series I hope to help you do the same.
If you’re ready to start that side hustle or refine your existing business, these are for you!
I have no idea what the format for these will be so let’s just flow with it!
LESSON OF THE WEEK
A recurring theme with my clients lately has been impatience and I gotta admit, as the patient Taurus I am I was a little annoyed at first. What can sound like impatience for some can sometimes sound like whining to me. 🙃
Impatience shows up in your mindset and how you speak about your business. I’ve had a few women come to me recently with statements like “I only have 5 women signed up for my retreat” and “I had 20 workshop attendees, but no one bought anything”.
First of all, what I heard is “I have 5 women signed up for my retreat that’s months away!” and “I had 10 new faces show up to my workshop!”
How you speak about your business is what determines whether it’s a success or failure.
This self maed journey is one of resilience so if you’re at the start of your business already feeling defeated, I’m not sure how much longer you have in the game tbh.
If you wanna work on your business mindset and learn how to create offers that feel effortless, I have 3 slots opening up in June to work with me 1-on-1. There’s a minimum commitment of 3 months and these are the last slots for 2022. Let’s chat if you’re interested.

SHOUTOUT TO STRIPE
One of the keys to the longevity of your business is keeping expenses in check. I often advise anyone starting out to avoid unnecessary costs. One way to do this is to pay for the cheapest Squarespace plan for your website and sell your offerings by creating Stripe products.
Once you create a Stripe product, you can then generate a payment link.
A recent update is that you can now generate a QR code for that payment link. This is 🔥 for anyone selling services or products in-person.
Let’s say you’re hosting an outdoor yoga class or selling at a farmer’s market, you can have the QR code ready for customers to scan and monitor payments as they come through with the Stripe mobile app. Even better — use Canva to create a cute + small printout of the code on card stock.
Do you want a quick tutorial? Lemme know.
THE STATE OF THE CREATOR ECONOMY
Each year ConvertKit, an email marketing platform maed for creators, facilitates a report on the state of the creator economy. This year’s report just dropped and there are a LOT of interesting insights. Here are some that stood out to me:
- The top 5 types of content created in 2021 were social media posts, blogs, newsletters, short-form videos and digital products (in that order). Takeaway: despite what people say, blogs are here to stay!
- The majority of full time creators have been building their audiences for 10 years or more and the highest-earning creators have been building their audiences for 10 years or more. Takeaway: things worth doing take time.
- Full-time creators who made more than $150,000 in 2021 reported the highest happiness levels and 61% of them experienced burnout in 2021. Takeaway: money can buy happiness…to an extent.
Here’s the full report and here’s my affiliate link if you’d like to try out ConvertKit with an extended trial. If you have no idea where to even begin with newsletters, here’s a course maed just for you.
A GREAT PLATFORM FOR COURSE CREATORS
I’ve started selling courses through PayHip and I love it! While I still host all of my course content in Notion, I particularly appreciate PayHip because of their affiliate marketing feature.
They have 3 different plans to choose from and with the free plan you’ll incur a 5% fee on each transaction. Here’s my affiliate link if you’d like to give it a try.
THE ART OF A STRATEGIC LAUNCH
In March I started a 6-month group coaching program with the goal of learning how to be more strategic with my business. One of my main foci is becoming more strategic with my launches so I’m currently working with my coach to map out a 3-month marketing plan for a program I’m dropping this fall.
I’m so excited to share all that I learn throughout this process. In the meantime, peep this post for insight on promoting your next membership launch — thank you Felly for sharing!
ICYMI
That’s all for this week! I’m off to work on my course, The Foundations of Personal Organization, and grub on a Sunday feast. I’m thinking Thai. 🤤
Holla at me if you have any requests for what you’d like to see in this series, I’m here to help.
Stay self maed,
Maegan
